The Warriors
Indians were protecting their way of life and resisting the encroachment of white settlers upon their lands...and the Indian extermination policy of the army at the time. This sculpture depicts the reaction of the Indian encampment upon being attacked by soldiers. Warriors and Chiefs mounted their ponies as squaws ran alongside handing their men weapons and shields. In the end, though having won this battle, the war was simultaneously lost against the white man.
