Working for "the man" had its rewards along the way but it also exacted a toll: stress and out-of-balance life priorities. So, freshly re-org'd out of a 24-year long corporate career, it's time for life on my own terms and embracing mid-life crisis with a passion. I've begun a promising journey, with the support of a fantastic (though non-motorcycling) spouse, which tempts with great emotional return doing the things I've put off so long: riding, writing, and photography. The path is clear: simply make the time left ahead full and meaningful.

My parents gave me a rich ancestral heritage of Choctaw Indian on my mom's side and Irish and Chickasaw Indian on my dad's. The impact of these cultures has descended upon me with profound influence only within the last several years. I know now that I'll pursue my "roots' routes" on a motorcycle trek across the country and perhaps even beyond an ocean. A two-wheeled geneaology adventure! Practically everywhere my present-day "iron pony" rolls is land formerly lived upon, fought for, given up, taken away from, or revered by this country's First Peoples. My boomer mission to take up motorcycling again coincides perfectly with my wish to connect further to my heritage and, in the process, learn more about this great land and all its people---First, and not.

/i//Kbike.jpg I explore my immediate surrounding areas in continual conditioning for the larger, longer trips like I've taken so far and the ones coming up. It's gratifying that pleasant discoveries can be found literally just around the corner. This old railroad bridge, for instance, was decommisssioned, paved for vehicle traffic and now provides a one-lane-wide farm road connection near Wanette, Oklahoma, only 50 miles from my home near Oklahoma City. I was not aware until recently of its existence even after having lived in the state for the past 38 years. Land Flight promises to be a great ride.
